Barrio Logan is quite possibly THE most colorful neighborhood in all of San Diego. Over the past few years, there has been an influx of new developments, restaurants, and galleries that have attributed to the transformation of this culturally rich part of town. History, art, and culture have molded this majority Mexican American neighborhood into what it is today – and you cannot drive down Logan Avenue, the main stretch in Barrio Logan, and find a wall without some art or history on it.
One block away from the popular Chicano Park is a very cool coffee shop that celebrates all things artistic and caffeinated. Part gallery and part coffee shop, Por Vida brings a Mexican twist to all their drinks and décor. Enjoy a delicious Horchata Latte, a refreshing Spicy Limonada, or a tasty pan dulce while surrounded by a seriously impressive wall-length mural and Frida Kahlo art pieces.

Since it was a beautifully breezy day, I decided on a hot Horachata latte with almond milk, while Mr. San Diego opted for the cold version. And since this half-Latina absolutely loves pan dulce, I couldn't walk away without getting one.
Even though this coffee shop is not the biggest, if felt incredibly spacious due to the large open window, abundance of light, and well placed seating. We were able to enjoy the perfect day and perfect breeze with a perfect latte.
One of the items on their menu that I can't wait to go back and try is their mazapan latte, which I was told has one whole mazapan thrown into the cup before it gets poured over with espresso and steamed milk. I'm pretty sure that I ate my weight in mazapan when I was kid, so this is right up my alley!
When doing my research about Barrio Logan, I learned so much about the amazing history of this neighborhood. I highly recommend you do your own research to find out how the Mexican Revolution, WWII and the Naval Station, and the Coronado Bridge shaped this community into what it is today. Then go grab yourself a latte from Por Vida and check out the cool new breweries and restaurants in the area!
