Blogtober | Punkel Beer at Lakewood Brewing
October is almost over and I knew couldn’t end Blogtober without finding a local seasonal pumpkin beer! Mr. San Diego and I found the perfect place for a festive seasonal brew at Lakewood Brewing Co in Garland! We spent the afternoon in their taproom and really enjoyed everything about the experience.
Behold - the Punkel. It is a Dunkel style lager with pumpkin-pie spice and it is REALLY GOOD. According to their website, they brewed this beer to be a perfect pairing for a slice of pumpkin pie, rather than taste like an actual pumpkin. Brilliant! Instead of trying to incorporate the popular gourd into their brew, they incorporated the best Fall dessert and it absolutely works!
Even Mr. San Diego, the IPA lover, really enjoyed the Punkel and especially enjoyed the fact that it has absolutely no pumpkin in it.
I really, really liked this brewery. It looks cool, has plenty of seating, and had such a welcoming vibe. They have a pizza menu that looks delicious, and although we didn’t eat there, there were others that did and their food looked and smelled great. Mr. San Diego and I will definitely be going back again. So far, it’s my favorite brewery that we’ve been to since we moved to Texas. It is such a nice brewery, we had an awesome bartender, and the beer was great!
We definitely recommend checking it out and grabbing a pint of the Punkel if it’s still on tap.
