the basics

how it works

For $21 a month, you receive three pieces of jewelry that you can either wear and return (aka rent) or purchase and keep (try before you buy). If you choose to buy something from your set, your monthly membership fee is credited towards your purchase. They offer a $10 discount if you buy everything in your set. If you don’t want to buy them, send them back. Easy peasy.

You Can Choose Your Set

You’ll receive an email when your new set is curated. If you don’t like what they select, you have the option to swap the pieces for something else they have in stock. It’s a very user-friendly system, and I like how they have it set up.

Easy to Send Back

Once you’re done with your set and are ready for a new set, you easily send the package back using a prepaid label they provide. The packaging it comes in can be reused, which is extra handy. There isn't a limit to how many sets you can get in a month, but you have to send your current set back first before you can select the next round. You don’t have to wait for them to physically receive your return - once the tracking number is registered, they’ll get your next box ready to go.

the details

A big part of the program is the ability to discover new jewelry styles and trends. As someone who has very little fashion sense, this really appealed to me. I figured it would be a good way to up my jewelry game without committing to pieces I may not like, or making the effort to search for them.

Take a Quiz

When you first sign up, you take a quiz to help Rockbox figure out what you may or may not like. Even though I’m awful at accessorizing, I’m very aware that I will NOT wear large or bold jewelry pieces, and I was able to notate that through the quiz. I tend to prefer the more delicate and “simple” styles. What came in my box can be COMPLETELY different from what you get in yours!

WIshlist

You can browse through their catalog and add things to your “Wish List”. That way, when the person curating your box starts to select your options, your Wish List items will be a priority if they’re available. It gives you a good idea of what is available and currently trending.

Price Ranges

While I might be interested in expanding my jewelry collection, I am NOT interested in spending a boat load of money on it. There really isn’t any piece of jewelry out there that I’d pay more than $80 for…so I was pleased that there are plenty of options within $40-$70 each. Of course, there are more expensive options, but if budget is a concern for you, this won’t break the bank.

Cancellations?

You can cancel at any time and do it on their website. They don’t make you call or send an email.

My box & Thoughts

Nailed My Preferences

All three of the pieces I received were right up my alley! Even if my initial curation wasn’t my jam, I could have switched it up how I wanted. I was a bit worried they might not have the kind of jewelry I’m comfortable wearing, but it all worked out great.

What I Bought

Even though I loved all three pieces, I only kept the little snake earrings because I was OBSESSED with them. I’m a grown-ass woman who still refers to herself as a Slytherin, so these earrings were not only my style, but they fit perfectly with my Harry Potter obsession and yet still had an adult vibe to them. They were $51, but after my credit and a coupon code they had last month, I paid about $25.

Is it Worth subscribing?

If you love, or even just like, jewelry, this could be a really fun subscription service for you. I got my first box for $1 (using someone else’s referral code), so I didn’t have to worry about losing out on money if I thought it was hot garbage. The jewelry seems to be very well made, they have a lot of well-known brands, and their website makes it easy to search and choose what you want.

All in all, I’d say GO FOR IT! Especially if you have a code to try it for free…which, incidentally, you can find below!
