Copper Top Coffee & Donuts | San Diego

Today is the official Grand Opening for Copper Top Coffee & Donuts in Hillcrest! They’re located in the old Wienerschnitzel off 1st and Washington and I absolutely love that they kept the super cool A-frame and walkup windows that was unique to that building. Two new perks are the drive-thru at the back, which I am sure is going to be VERY popular with the locals, and the sweet little side patio with tables and strung lights.

“Damn Good Coffee” is printed on everything, and when I drank the Vanilla Rose Latte with almond milk, I had to agree - it really is DAMN GOOD! Seriously though, get the Vanilla Rose latte. I really really liked it.

As for the donuts, we got one of each since they had a $1 Opening Day special! They are normally priced at $2 each. They have:

  • Tortoise – walnuts, chocolate, and salted caramel.

  • Bear Claw – honey and almonds.

  • 16 Candles – white chocolate, coconut, and sprinkles.

  • Sugar & Spice – cinnamon and sugar.

  • Powdered Up – powdered sugar.

Of all five donuts, our two favorites were Sugar & Spice and Powdered Up. These donuts are not luxury and gourmet – they’re simple and they do simple well. Our donuts were freshly baked and absolutely delicious, and we enjoyed the simplicity of only having five options to choose from.

Since they’re open until 6pm every day, this place would be an awesome spot for an evening latte and donut. The cute little patio isn’t covered, so it was a little rough sitting out during the day – but once the sun goes down, I can imagine that it would be delightful!
