Bronx Pizza | San Diego
Bronx Pizza in Hillcrest is my favorite pizza spot in all of San Diego! This cash-only "pie" shop serves crispy, thin, delicious New York style pizza.
One of the reasons why Mr. San Diego and I keep coming back to Bronx Pizza is for their Whitestone pizza that has ricotta, garlic, mozzarella, and parmesan. It is SO DAMN GOOD. It is not super greasy, the crust is crispy enough to hold firmly while eating, and they heat up each slice for you so that it is piping hot when you get it. You can order by the slice, get a combo with two slices and a drink for $6.50, or order a whole pie.
From what I have been told, Bronx Pizza is as close to authentic New York style pizza as you can get in San Diego. Our favorites are the Whitestone, the Porko which has pepperoni, meatballs, and sausage, and the Pesto pizza. Honestly, we've probably tried almost all of the different options and they are all delicious.
Aside from the pizza, the location itself is pretty cool. As I mentioned earlier, it is CASH ONLY. There are two different areas to order - one on the outside to grab a whole pie to-go or to pick up an order, and one on the inside to order by the slice. The employees yell out your order when they're ready and they toss the pizzas on two stacked paper plates for you to come grab yourself. No frills and no servers - just delicious pizza that you can grab and go. They have two seating areas, the smaller area is right when you walk in and that is what is pictured below, but there is also a much larger area in the back.
We love this pizza place and so do many other San Diegans - this place is always packed! It has been around for 20 years (and I don't think it has changed at all since) and the line is still out the door most evenings. It is definitely worth checking out but be sure to bring cash before you do!
